Network of Community Advisors (NOCA)

The Network of Community Advisors (NOCA) is a primary advisory body to the PRCHN ("the Center").  NOCA's role is to provide guidance and leadership to carry out the goals and objectives of the Center, to provide annual feedback on the progress of the Center, and to bring current issues in area neighborhoods to the attention of the Center.

NOCA members work side-by-side with the Center leadership and staff to:

  • define research questions,
  • determine how to best answer the questions, and
  • decide how to spread or act on the findings.

NOCA is comprised of two membership levels.  An "Advising Partner" is a member who serves on NOCA and serves on a core sub-committee and/or research working group.  An "Advisor" is a member who serves on NOCA but does not also serve on a sub-committee and/or research working group.  Below is a description of the various NOCA committees and PRCHN research working groups.

NOCA Committees

The success of the PRCHN is directly related to the involvement of NOCA members in all aspects of the Center.  This includes both NOCA committees, as well as sub-committees linked to the programmatic cores of the PRCHN.  The NOCA committees provide oversight and guidance within NOCA and represent our PRC on a national level.  The PRCHN Core Sub-committees provide guidance, oversight, and regular input into the efforts of the Center, working directly with Core Directors and their staff.   Beginning in Year 2, all committees will meet regularly (e.g., monthly) and present reports at the quarterly NOCA meetings.

NOCA Committees

Governance Committee: responsible for monitoring membership, coordinating the nominating process, and revising the guiding principles and procedures for NOCA.

Resource Committee: responsible for identifying and cultivating people and programs to advance and support the work of NOCA and the PRCHN.

PRCHN Core Sub-Committees

Communication & Dissemination: advise core staff on the development of the PRCHN website and other communication products, as well as data briefs, policy reports, and annual reports to the community, with the goal of describing local data and Center's research findings to the community, particularly the community members that serve as partners and participants in the research.

Research Development: foster relationships and communication between researchers, community organizations, and residents to pursue new prevention research projects that are responsive to local needs and designed to be informative to other urban communities across the country.

Training and Mentoring: foster the development of community-based prevention research among faculty, students/trainees, and community members through field training, mentoring, seminars, and workshops.

Evaluation: develop measurable evaluation outcomes to ensure the Center’s goals are achieved on time and on budget and to contribute to the national evaluation of PRC’s
