Community Outreach Navigation for Effective Cessation Treatment in Food Pantries (CONNECT – Pantries)
The overall goal of the CONNECT-Pantries project is to improve community health by increasing the reach of the tobacco quitline in communities with a high burden of tobacco use. We partner with local food pantries as community spaces to reach individuals who currently use tobacco and refer them to the Ohio Tobacco Quitline, an accessible, evidence-based smoking-cessation resource.
We are adapting the Ask Advise Connect (AAC) approach for use in a community-based setting. This project can inform and improve future intervention development to increase access to smoking cessation services for underserved groups who seek to quit smoking. Specifically, community settings such as food pantries can continue to use the intervention model to offer smoking-cessation opportunities beyond the scope of this project.
Methods
The CONNECT team has three phases for creating an intervention to assist food pantry patrons interested in quitting smoking. This will run from 2024 to 2029.
